Your location is yours. Nearra is about being found by the right neighbour — not about broadcasting where you live.

01

Who is responsible for your information.

NEARRA (Pty) Ltd is responsible for the personal information handled through Nearra. This policy covers the Nearra website and installed apps. Questions, privacy requests and complaints can be sent to hello@nearra.app.

02

Information we collect.

We collect the account and profile details you provide, such as your name, email address, optional phone number, username, photograph, profession, skills, biography, approximate area and contact handles or links. We also store content you create, including listings, posts, reviews, messages, saved people and support requests. If you use paid web features, we keep the resulting purchase, subscription or boost status — not your full card details.

03

Location, searches and app activity.

With your permission, Nearra sends precise coordinates to calculate distance, sort nearby results and create your chosen area label. Your precise coordinates are stored privately; other users see only an approximate area and rounded distance, never an address or map pin. You can instead choose an area manually. Nearra also records searches, screens and features used, saves and other product interactions, along with an account or device identifier and basic technical information, so the service can work, stay secure and be improved.

04

How we use information.

We use information to create and authenticate accounts; show and personalise nearby results; publish profiles and user content; deliver messages, contact reveals and notifications; provide subscriptions and boosts; moderate content, investigate reports and prevent fraud or abuse; answer support requests; measure product use; maintain the service; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, show third-party advertising, or use Nearra data to track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

05

What other users can see.

Profiles, area labels, rounded distances and content intended for the community may be public and can be viewed without an account. Contact details are hidden until a signed-in user chooses to reveal them. Private messages are visible only to their participants and authorised Nearra personnel when reasonably needed for safety, support or legal compliance. Your precise coordinates, email used for sign-in and account settings are not shown publicly.

06

Service providers we use.

We share only what is needed with providers that help operate Nearra: Supabase for accounts, databases, realtime messages and file storage; Vercel for hosting and security; PostHog for product analytics; Apple and Google for sign-in and push notifications; Google Gemini for automated image-safety checks; Resend for transactional and support email; Paystack for eligible web payments; and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service for place search and area labels. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy obligations. We may also disclose information when lawfully required or to protect a person, Nearra or the public.

07

Image moderation and community safety.

Before an uploaded image is published, it may be sent securely to Google Gemini to check for nudity, sexual exploitation, graphic violence, threats, hate, illegal sales and other prohibited content. Automated checks can make mistakes. You can report content or a user from the ⋯ menu, block an abusive user immediately, or contact us to request a review.

08

Retention and deletion.

We keep account information and user content while the account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service. Security, moderation, transaction and support records may be retained longer where needed to prevent abuse, resolve disputes or meet legal duties. When you delete your account, Nearra removes the account and associated profile and content from the live service and removes uploaded files shortly after. Limited copies may remain temporarily in protected backups or legally required records until they are overwritten or no longer needed.

09

Your choices and rights.

You can edit profile and contact information, choose an area instead of device location, change location or notification permission in device settings, and remove your public profile. You may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold, provide a copy, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to certain processing, or explain a decision. Rights vary by location, and we may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10

How to delete your account.

Sign in, open Settings and choose “Delete my account”. This is permanent and removes you from search and the community. If you can't sign in, email hello@nearra.app from the address on your account and we'll help after verifying the request.

11

Security and international processing.

Nearra uses access controls, encrypted connections and restricted server credentials to protect information, but no online service can promise perfect security. Our providers may process information in South Africa and other countries where they operate. We use contractual and technical safeguards appropriate to the information and service.

12

Children and policy changes.

Nearra is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us so we can investigate and remove it. We may update this policy as the service changes; the current effective date will always appear at the top of this page, and material changes may also be explained in the app.
